In May 2002, the AMERICAN JOURNAL OF SOCIOLOGY published an exchange on
urban ethnography, with a review by Loic Wacquant and responses by Eli
Anderson, Mitch Duneier, and Kathy Newman. For those who have seen the
review (which has been circulating on the internet since December),the
